This set of 28 posters of Explorers to Canada includes 8” by 10.5” posters of the following explorers who made important contributions to the exploration and ultimate settlement of Canada:
Roald Amundsen, Etienne Brule, John Cabot, Jacques Cartier, Samuel de Champlain, James Cook, Leif Ericson, John Franklin, Simon Fraser, Martin Frobisher, Juan de Fuca, Pierre des Groseilliers, Samuel Hearne, Henry Hudson, Louis Jolliet, Henry Kelsey, Henry Larsen, Sieur de La Salle, Pierre La Verendrye, Alexander Mackenzie, Jean Nicollet, John Palliser, Pierre Radisson, John Rae, David Thompson, George Vancouver, and Giovanni da Verrazano.
The men chosen for this set represent the exploring nations, geographic areas explored in Canada, and different time periods of exploration. While I have not included every explorer that came to our country, I believe these 28 are a very good representation.
The posters reproduce well - I took a couple of them to Staples and had them digitally printed and they turned out extremely well. I had them printed on both heavier stock paper and regular computer paper, and both methods worked well. Four outline colours are used and each poster is unique as I varied the inside borders.
If you do not have access to colour printing, or it is cost prohibitive, the posters also print out well in grayscale and could be mounted on coloured paper to be displayed.
I have also included a student template for each explorer so that you can have your students create their own posters. An example can be seen in the thumbnails and the preview file. All the images I used are available online - in fact, there are more images for students to choose from as I only used images available through wikicommons.org (all in the public domain).
