PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Use square tiles or grid paper to explore a connection between area and perimeter. When given a rectangle, how many square units can students remove to keep the perimeter the same? Students will explore a "fixed perimeter" by designing a rectangle, and trying to remove as many square units as possible and keep the perimeter the same.

Students will also find as many rectangles with a certain perimeter, and they will compare the area of these rectangles. Then students can find as many rectangles with a certain area, and they will compare the perimeter of these rectangles.

To show understanding, students will apply what they have learned to a 'real world' story problem involving a "fixed area" or a "fixed perimeter".
