Teach Story Elements Through Scripts
Satisfy Common Core Standards for reading and writing in one swoop!
I have students work through a couple reader’s theater scripts before attempting to write their own plays. For each script, we do the first page, “Set Up Your Play” (sometimes Set Up, Character Planning, and Scene Planning pages.) This way, students are very familiar with their graphic organizer before they create their own play.
After students write their play, they can produce a production! Also included, post-script literary extension questions (such as "what would need to be changed if you changed the central message?") and student response pages.
This unit is a companion to the Writer's Workshop resource found at my store, Sarah’s Teaching Points.
