For this unit, students will create a pamphlet of a foreign country they have never been to. They will use persuasive writing techniques to entice travelers to go to this country. They are free to choose any country they want outside of the USA. They will have to give information about the geography, topography, capital, culture, and sights to see. This will be and informative, travel writing unit aimed at honing writer’s voice and persuasiveness. Students are required to include at least two scholarly sources (websites, articles, pamphlets, etc.) and because this is a foreign country they’ll be writing about, personal experiences are not required but encouraged if possible. At the end, each student will present their pamphlet to the class in a 3-5 minute presentation. This way other students will learn about different countries as well.
