Why did Europeans risk their lives to explore? God? Gold? Glory?
Even if you were brave enough to explore uncharted territory in the 16th century, you needed a lot of money to fund such a large endeavor. Early explorers knew European kings, queens, and wealthy business owners could afford such voyages, but everyone knew these were very high risk investments: even an experienced explorer might never be heard from again. On the other hand, a successful voyage could make investors rich beyond their wildest dreams. Students will take on the role of an explorer, create a resume, and prepare and perform a sales pitch to convince an audience to invest in their voyage.
