Students will experience world trade and the difficulties explorers faced. This game will help students create background knowledge through a shared experience. This game can be referred back to throughout the unit.
"Remember the explorer game we played? What we are learning today is like that game because..."
This 8 page packet comes with set up instructions, game cards, explorer dollars, student worksheet and visual aid.
Game requires a bit of set up. You cannot purchase this packet and play right away.
Each team is a country that has one resource. The team's explorer must go out into the world and purchase a resource from each country. Real life representations of these resources work best, but paper representations are included. Five boxes will need to be assembled. Each box needs a spice, a silk, a gem, a gold piece and an animal skin. This packet gives you complete instructions and suggestions for creating these props.
The work you put into this game is worth it. Students love this hands on activity. Since most elementary students have no experience with trade, this is a nice jumping point for your explorers unit.
