This is a bundled set of 6 of my guided biographies for six explorers that played an important part in the European settlement of North America: John Cabot, Christopher Columbus, Henry Hudson, Sieur de La Salle, Lewis and Clark, and Juan Ponce de Leon. Each one of these is listed separately but you save almost half when buying the bundled set.
The preview available here is for Henry Hudson and La Salle. Please check the previews of the six explorers in their separate listings or download the free guided biography of Galileo to get a good idea of what you will find in the guided biographies.
My Guided Biographies are designed to be used in several ways:
-- as a research activity that could be part of a larger project;
-- as a transition into writing an entirely student-created biography;
-- as an introduction to reading and evaluating informational text.
Students choose a biography on a subject and complete the biography study. While not all of the biographies will include all the information asked for, students can fill in the gaps using other books or the Internet.
The guided biographies for Cabot, Hudson, and Ponce de Leon* consist of:
A cover page for the student to fill out with their name and book title that looks very much like the teacher’s cover page
A Table of Contents
11 general questions about the biography the student is using
5 questions about the author of the biography
4 questions about the parts of the biography
1 page for recording 8 new vocabulary words
3 pages of “After Reading” questions that elicit both facts and opinion (*the Columbus, Lewis and Clark, and La Salle guided biographies have 4 pages of questions rather than 3 but otherwise follow the same format)
A timeline graphic organizer for each explorer
A 2-page Teacher Guide which includes Common Core standard alignments for Grades 4-6 (Reading Informational Text)
Each product includes a detailed answer key for questions based on factual material.
Please note that three of the explorers in this bundle (Cabot, Hudson, and La Salle) also appear in my bundled set of biography studies for explorers associated with Canada.
