This Early Explorer unit is for 5th grade.
Part 1: Students will explore and explorer. They will research an Early Explorer of the Americas, the motivations for their expeditions and how they affected the existing cultures. Students will choose an explorer from 5 different areas (i.e., England, Spain, Portugal, France, Netherlands).
Part 2: Students will take their knowledge of their chosen explorer to form a group of students where each student has a different explorer. The group will share, discuss and compare & contrast the explorer and explorations.
Part 3: Students will form an Expedition party and decide on an area or place to explore (i.e., Rainforest, Ocean, Mars, Moon, Science). They will journal/snapshot their expedition, and design/create a project that explains the purpose for their expedition, what was discovered, what was needed for their expedition to be successful, and their overall findings.
All Assessments (pre, formative, summative) and student pages are included.
