Students learn to identify character traits by examining the lives of explorers and the ten personality traits that helped them succeed.
This lesson can be used as an introduction to Character Traits, or a great introductory lesson to learning about explorers and the Age of Discovery. And if you decide to go with the "Plan B" included in this packet, you will have a super easy classroom management plan for grouping and rewarding students throughout the year. Students get so excited about the content and activities in this lesson that they really get hooked, setting the tone for achievement in the classroom, and making the identification of character traits in reading and writing (later on) a breeze. This packet includes a step by step lesson plan connecting explorers with the character traits of achieving personalities; 3 hand-outs/overheads--an explanatory definition for trait, a list of the ten characteristics of achieving personalities, a list of character traits; online links to supportive reading materials, print-outs, and videos; and a classroom game, based on this lesson, that's great for anytime you have some unexpected time in the classroom or when you need something additional for sub plans.
