World Explorers is a set of graphic organizers for 18 important explorers who contributed to the exploration of the world over many centuries. Two naturalist explorers of the 19th century are included. The explorers are:
Roald Amundsen, Vitus Bering, John Cabot, Christopher Columbus, James Cook, Charles Darwin, Francis Drake, Vasco da Gama, Prince Henry the Navigator, Alexander von Humboldt, Ibn Mattuta, David Livingstone, Ferdinand Magellan, Francisco de Orellana, Marco Polo, Robert F. Scott, Henry Stanley, and Zheng He.
Each explorer has a graphic organizer for students to complete with simple biographical facts, the explorer’s important accomplishments, and what we can find today at the sites or area of exploration. Students are also provided space on each sheet to draw a map of the explorer’s route(s). This activity is designed so that it is flexible for the classroom teacher to use: it can be used as an introductory activity, a review and/or summary activity, or as a part of individual project or a classroom display. It will help the student organize information on various explorers. It is also designed so that teachers do not have to use all of the organizers and can use them in any order.
A template is included so that students can add other explorers - this is not editable however. Students can add a picture and individual explorer identification by hand.
I have included four pages of an answer key with some information on each explorer so that the teacher can check it against student work. Not all data on each explorer is included of course, but enough to serve as a guideline.
I also have a set of 15 Graphic Organizers for Explorers to Canada in my store, as well as a set of 24 Graphic Organizers for Explorers to the Americas. Both are designed in a similar fashion. John Cabot appears in both of sets, and Amundsen, Columbus, Cook, Drake, and Magellan also appear in the Explorers to the Americas product.
This resource is part of a small bundle which includes a unit on Marco Polo. It may be seen here:
