This Social Studies/ELA unit has 37 pages that cover limited information about 11 explorers listed on fourth grade Common Core Standards for Social Studies (Content Skills Standard 2:2), and using that information for practice with punctuation, capitalization, prepositions, fragments and run-ons, spelling, and frequently confused words (multiple-meaning words) - Common Core Standards (L.4.1e-g, L.4.2a-d). Hopefully there is enough information to help the kids know a little about each explorer as well as decide which explorer they would prefer doing more research about if you want them to do a report. The explorers included are Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Francisco de Coronado, Henry Hudson, Hernando de Soto, Marquette & Joliet, Ponce de Leon, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Robert la Salle. The last 14 pages are lines with the name and picture of each explorer as well as a report outline form if needed. Covering this unit after our Punctuation Power and Capitalization units or some other punctuation and capitalization review would probably make it easier and more meaningful for the kids. Answer keys included. This is the same unit, but with a different title as our Punctuation and Capitalization with Facts About Explorers. Hope this is helpful. Have a great year, and good luck with testing!!!
