This packet will help your kindergarten students learn, understand, and practice using the social studies terms used when talking about ancient Egypt. It also will provide you with resources to make your unit come to life. By integrating history into your language lessons, you not only create an enthusiasm in your students, but you can create the "hook" you need to engage even the most reluctant learners.

This packet includes 5 lesson plans to help you as you plan your unit. Each lesson is written out and the packet includes all of the pictures, resources, recording sheets, and activity ideas you will need to make each lesson a success.

Students will learn about the geography of Egypt, the pharaohs, The Nile River, hieroglyphics, pyramids, mummies, tombs, and more!

Each lesson comes with high-resolution photographs that can be projected or printed out. These pictures will really help your students experience Egypt!

This packet includes many resources including: fully written out 5-E lesson plans, vocabulary cards (featuring high quality pictures), student vocabulary books, center activities, posters, recording pages, art activities/projects, STEM activities, and so much more!

In using this pack, students will meet these objectives:
-Students will learn where Egypt is.
-Students will learn specific landforms such as rivers and deltas.
-Students will learn about the pyramids, pharaohs, and Sphinx.
-Students will learn what hieroglyphics are and practice writing using them.
-Students will learn the vocabulary words: river, delta, Egypt, pharaoh, pyramids, the Nile River, mummy, sarcophagus, hieroglyphic, inner coffin, cartouche, parchment.

There are many opportunities for your students to use this engaging topic to research and write about what they are learning.

The 5-E lesson plans included are:
Day 1: Egypt Geography {building schema and enthusiasm}
Day 2: The Pyramids
Day 3: Hieroglyphics
Day 4: Pharaohs
Day 5: Culmination

All lessons are presented in the 5-E format. (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) They are written out step by step! Each lesson also comes with beautiful pictures and engaging activities to help your children understand the objectives in a hands-on way. Many of the lessons also contain links to videos and resources to use while teaching the lesson! I have also included book suggestions to go with each of the 5-E lesson plans as well as pictures from my classroom so that you can see the lessons in action.

Knowledge and Skills:

(11)  Culture. The student understands similarities and differences among people. The student is expected to:
(A)  identify similarities and differences among people such as kinship, laws, and religion; and
(B)  identify similarities and differences among people such as music, clothing, and food.

(4)  Geography. The student understands the concept of location. The student is expected to:
(A)  use terms, including over, under, near, far, left, and right, to describe relative location;
(B)  locate places on the school campus and describe their relative locations; and
(C)  identify tools that aid in determining location, including maps and globes.

(5)  Geography. The student understands physical and human characteristics of place. The student is expected to:
(A)  identify the physical characteristics of place such as landforms, bodies of water, natural resources, and weather; and
(B)  identify how the human characteristics of place such as ways of earning a living, shelter, clothing, food, and activities are based upon geographic location.
