PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This unit lets kids in intermediate grades dig deeper into plant parts. Your students will love these hands-on activities and video links.

Seeds - Compare and contrast monocots and dicots. Observe and record germination of bean and/or corn seeds with individual student “baggie gardens.” Feeling adventurous? A complete set of directions and templates for creating a growing germination bulletin board are also included.

Roots - Simulate the functions of taproots and fibrous roots (as well as what happens to a plant with no roots) with paper towel models.

Leaves - Focus on photosynthesis. Learn from a multimedia presentation (video link and notetaking sheet included).

Flowers - Learn about pollination from an original infographic. Dissect flowers to explore their parts.

Seed Dispersal - Invite a virtual guest speaker into your class to learn how seeds disperse, or travel away from their parents (video link and notetaking sheet included).

Stems - Place a stalk of celery or a carnation in colored water overnight. Observe how the water travels through the stem. Explore absorption and pressure with colored water and paper towels.

Writing activities, review sheets, and a summative assessment are also included. These science activities can be used in a stand-alone sequence or to enrich your plant unit.
