In this activity students will explore cell size and scale and gain perspective to help them understand the relative size of microscopic biological structures.
In part 1, students will be given a student worksheet that will list 20 structures. As a class, students will work through a PowerPoint presentation with background information on the structures they will see on the structure cards. They will record this information on their worksheet.
In part 2, students will work with a partner and use a set of structure cards to put the structures in order according to their relative size. Once teams feel they have the order correct they will record this on their student worksheet. When all teams are done, the PowerPoint will be used to review answers.
In part 3, students will view a visual comparison of the structures.
