This lesson plan is one in the "Exploring Picture Books Series" a series which explores a number of children's picture books and their different illustration techniques.
The lesson plans guide the teacher through a process of identifying and naming parts of a picture book and exploring the illustration style (in this case watercolor with pen and ink). Students are encouraged to consider the interaction between text and illustration in telling a story and then create their own pictures using the illustration technique from each book. These lesson plans relate to language arts, literature and art and may also have links to science or social studies depending on the theme of each individual book.
