This lesson plan is number 4 in the "Exploring Picture Books Series" a series which explores a number of children's picture books and their various illustration techniques.
The lesson plans guide the teacher through a process of identifying and naming parts of a picture book and exploring the illustration style (in this case watercolor paint and pen and ink line drawings). Students are encouraged to consider the interaction between text and illustration in telling a story and then create their own pictures using the illustration technique from each book. These lesson plans relate to language arts, literature and art and may also have links to other themes depending on the narrative in each individual book.
