(formerly Cuisenaire Rod Exploration)
So often we introduce tools and their purposes before students have a chance to really explore them. And then it can become a challenge to hold their attention to the task at hand. This is an activity to introduce individual Math Manipulatives before beginning to work with them. Students can explore these tools without prior knowledge or experience. Students may be given a selection of the chosen manipulative with the expectation of exploring. Working independently or with partners or groups, students have the opportunity to explore and then write and draw (or trace) to demonstrate their observations and connections.
These activities are perfect for the first weeks of school or the beginning of a new unit in math.
Now including 8 different manipulative pages for recording observations:
-Base Ten Blocks
-3D Geometric Shapes
