A fun and challenging activity for individuals or teams. Using books, information provided, and the internet, students discover (or have reinforced) the environmental reasons that generally lead people to settle in a region, how natural barriers and natural ‘highways’ affect migration and trade, and how people adapt to their environment or adapt the environment to their needs. They should also see how, sometimes, a particular resource or need will lead people to establish towns in places that would not ordinarily be attractive.
This activity was constructed for Geography, but could also be used for U.S. History. Includes student research packet, information packet, and teacher key.
