It's sometimes difficult to find hands on lab experiments to go along with an ecosystems and food webs unit. Through the scientific process, students will observe the affects of sugar water, salt water and vinegar water on plant growth. You can choose to set it up as one observation in front of class or allow small groups to have a set of 4 plants. I usually use simple grass seed or a bean sprout. At the end of the experiment, students will explain the effects of plant elimination within a food web. I also linked some interactive web sites where those who are done can explore the process of photosynthesis and also study the importance of protecting our environment.
