This activity sheet guides students through an introductory exploration of standard form quadratic functions. It begins with 3 exercises where students complete a table and then graph a given function. Next, it moves into a guided exploration which requires access to some type of graphing technology (calculators, web-based, apps etc.). Students start by determining how the coefficient of the quadratic term affects the graph by looking at multiple examples and then generalizing their findings. Next, they explore how the addition of a constant term affects the graph. Finally the linear term is brought in and they again use examples to attempt to generalize the effect on the graph. On the last page, there is a table where they summarize findings for each value and then use their findings to predict what the graph of a given function will look like.
