Lesson plan adapted from Read, Write, Think. Link included.
Interactive game perfect for small groups or stations to engage students with roots and affixes while learning vocabulary in context. Students will explore the meaningful parts of words, learning the meanings of common roots, prefixes, and suffixes and see how these word parts interact to create new words with new meanings. Students will begin to see how an affix changes the meaning of the word and will be able to begin deriving meaning from those word parts.
Also includes an partner activity where students create their own version of the game, share with another group, provide feedback, and revise. This allows students to do an in-depth exploration of word parts to create their own version.
Includes: Introduction, materials list, photographs, worksheets, answer keys, and student exit/ self-assessment slips
