This packet will help your kindergarten and first grade students learn, understand, and practice using the science terms used when talking about the ocean. It also will provide you with resources to make your unit come to life. By integrating science and non-fiction into your language lessons, you not only create an enthusiasm in your students, but you can create the "hook" you need to engage even the most reluctant learners.

This packet includes 12 lesson plans to help you as you plan your unit. Each lesson is written out and the packet includes all of the pictures, resources, recording sheets, and activity ideas you will need to make each lesson a success.

This packet will cover these objectives and more!
-Students will learn the names and locations of the oceans.
-Students will learn the zones of the ocean and animals that live in each zone.
-Students will learn about the animals that live in tide pools.
-Students will learn the life cycle of a shark and sea turtle.
-Students will learn how animals have adapted to live in the ocean.
-Students will research ocean animals.
-Students will learn the vocabulary words: ocean, tide, life cycle, apex predator, shell, coral, salt water, kelp, beach, vertebrate, invertebrate, oviparous, viviparous, ovoviviparous, pup, juvenile, coastline, and many more!

Each lesson comes with high-resolution photographs that can be projected or printed out. These pictures will really help your students experience ocean life!

In the packet, two new characters, Mateo and Lilly, are traveling to different oceans and ocean zones. They will send your students postcards and letters throughout their journey showing your students incredible destinations as well as the amazing animals who live there.

This packet includes many resources including: fully written out 5-E lesson plans, vocabulary cards (featuring high quality pictures), student vocabulary books, center activities, posters, recording pages, science activities/projects, and so much more!

There are many opportunities for your students to use this engaging topic to research and write about what they are learning.

The 5-E lesson plans included are:

2. What is a tide pool?
3. What animals live in tide pools? (hermit crabs, crabs, barnacles)
4. Animals found in tide pools (continued) (sea stars)

12. Culmination (research project)

All lessons are presented in the 5-E format. (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) They are written out step by step! Each lesson also comes with beautiful pictures and engaging activities to help your children understand the objectives in a hands-on way. Many of the lessons also contain links to videos and resources to use while teaching the lesson! I have also included fiction and nonfiction book suggestions to go with each of the 5-E lesson plans!
