PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Energize your study of thermal energy with eight sets of hands-on science activities and a corresponding website! Lesson plans, lab sheets, website, flash cards, review sheet, and assessment are all included in this heat unit.

Concepts Explored:
• What Is Heat?
• How Does Heat Travel?
• What Is Conduction?
• What Is Convection?
• What Is Radiation?
• What Materials Insulate and Conduct Heat?
• How Does Heat Change Matter?
• How Do We Measure Heat?

This set of activities was developed to engage students in a conceptual study of the basic principles of thermal energy. It includes eight sets of simple hands-on activities, a companion website, review, and assessment.

Explore one concept each day. Do the hands-on activities first. Encourage students to use observations to forge their own generalizations.
• Option 1: Students work in small groups to complete the activities
• Option 2: Teacher demonstrates and students record findings in their packets.
Follow up with the website, which uses text, images, video, and other links to reinforce the concept.
• Option 1: Share the URL with your students for independent exploration.
• Option 2: Project the website and explore together.

• Day #7 – How Does Heat Change Matter?
• Day #8 - How Do We Measure Heat?
• Day #9 – Review (flash cards, worksheet, study guide)
• Day #10 - Assessment
