This project was created for my Math 8 Essentials Students (remedial math 8). It was used as a culminating activity after a thorough study of slope and graphing linear equations. The project is intended to take approximately 6 40-minute class periods, with students completing 1-2 tasks per day.
Students are asked to find an entry-level job they might like to have when they finish school (high school or college). They then search for a local apartment and determine the cost of rent, utilities, food, entertainment, possible student loans, credit card debt, car expenses, pets, etc.
Opportunities for creating, graphing, and analyzing linear functions are embedded into activities.
