Product Description

After reading the exposition of their novel, have students complete this activity to record what they have learned about the setting, conflict, and characters! They will use critical reading skills to describe what the setting looks like and draw it using details from the book. They will also describe what the main characters are like and draw one of the characters using details from the book. Download this document using Microsoft Word to adapt the questions to any book of your choosing!

This editable worksheet was originally designed to be used as an activity for students to complete together in Literature Circle groups. The questions can be adapted to fit into any genre to help students break-down the exposition of the book. In this activity, students read a dystopian novel (like The Hunger Games, The Giver, City of Ember, Maze Runner, etc). After completing the first few chapters, they worked together in their groups to find the information about the setting and characters. They also made connections between the society described in the book and their own society's laws, customs, regulations, etc. It's a great way to get students to understand the beginning of the novel!
