Description

Common Core State Standards for Mathematics: 8.EE.1 for Grade 8.
This lesson can be used with any middle school grade level course including the entry level high school course or Math I.

This is a 27 minute detailed video lesson with a guided notes sheet that accompanies it. The lesson begins with the basic understanding of powers, then provides a foundation for the "why" behind the three most basic exponent rules: Multiplication of Powers, Division of Powers, and Power of a Power Rule. Embedded worked example problems are provided as well as opportunities for students to reflect on their work and collaborate with their peers. The guided notes handout is provided in both a pdf format as well as word format for customization if desired.
