Exponent Rules Scavenger Hunt
The objective of this activity is for students to solidify their knowledge of the exponent rules in a way that is engaging and requires student discourse. *Answer key included*
Print each of the following pages on colored paper and hang around the room (my students also loved it when I placed some of pages in the hallway). This will give you 15 stations (15 problems). Give each student the Scavenger Hunt Worksheet. In partners, the students will first pick a problem to begin with. They must simplify the problem from that station and write their solution on their worksheet. The students will then use that answer to hunt out their next station by looking at the upper left-hand corner for the corresponding answer. Once they identify the corresponding answer, they must then simplify the problem on the middle of that page. By looking for their answers, the students are able to check their work. If they cannot find the answer at any of the stations, they know they have made a mistake. Helpful hint – place the pages out of order around the room so the students have to move all around to find the next station.
