Product Description Exponent Rules Tic Tac Toe:
Students will play Tic Tac Toe in partners as they simplify expressions using the exponent rules. There are 5 boards that get progressively more difficult. *Answer key included!
Directions: There are 5 boards and they get progressively more difficult with Board A being the easiest and Board E being the most challenging. Have your students begin with A and work their way to the E-board.
Put the students in partners – one student is Xs and one is Os. One student will start wherever they want on the board and correctly simplify the expression in order to place their X or O on that box. Also, have the students write the correct answer in each box. The other student should also simplify the expression as a way to check the first student’s answer and to steal the box if the first student gets it wrong. The students should take turns as they work through the game until one student has three in a row. Be ready with the answer key in case any group cannot decide on an answer.
Once a pair is done with one game, have them bring their board with the solutions to you so you can check their answers before they move onto the next board.
If there is an odd number of students, have the singleton work through the board game and attempt to get three correct answers in a row. Have them check their answers with the teacher. The student can be Os and the teacher can be Xs.
