Step-up activities are designed to reinforce concepts learned in class. Students are able to work at their own pace, while ensuring that they each understand the content. Since the teacher checks student work, the teacher is able to assess each student’s level.
The way the activity is conducted:
All students are to start with task card number 1. When students complete this, they will need to check the answers with you. If they get them all correct, they can return this task card and pick up task card #2. If they are not all correct, tell the student which number(s) was incorrect and they need to re-evaluate and check again when they have corrected it.
This step-up activity was designed to begin with the more simple exponent rules and continuously expand to be a cumulative review of the more difficult concepts. This activity can be used after students have learned all rules to reinforce concepts, or it can be used in parts as you go through the rules with students.
