This activity allows students to discover how each component of the exponential equation affects the graph. The activity uses Google Form, Google Docs, Google Drawing and the graphing site graphesketch.com.
The idea when developing this activity is to allow students to work in pairs or small groups. If feasible, two devices should be used: one device to go through the Google Form and answer the questions and another device to graph the exponential parent function and the transformed function. *Instructions for split-screen is at the end.
Unfortunately, Google does not yet allow Google Forms to be saved; students may not finish within one class period because there are 49 questions. Therefore, several versions were developed.
The original version is all 49 questions that include the following parts and each part is required which means students must click on an answer for each question before moving ahead or submitting activity. This version could be used a flipped lesson if time does not permit in a regular class period.
• Prerequisite (10 questions about graphing and identifying the critical features of the parent function)
• Part 1 (13 questions about graphing 4 transformed graphs that affect the initial value “a”)
• Part 2 (13 questions about graphing 4 transformed graphs that affect the “h”)
• Part 3 (13 questions about graphing 4 transformed graphs that affect the “k”)
