Exponential Functions TEKS Aligned: A9C, A9D

This resource includes a one-sided notes page used to teach the basics of exponential functions and a one-sided practice page to complete the one-day lesson plan.

The notes begin by defining what an exponential function is. Then the equation is given. The student fills in what "a" represents. The information related to "b" is already given. Next, four examples are given where the student is asked to write the exponential equation. On the first two examples the student is simply given the starting value and the rate. The second two examples involve a word problem.

On examples 5 & 6, the student is given an exponential equation and asked to identify the initial value, whether the equation represents exponential growth or decay and the rate of growth or decay.

Finally, the student is given two more word problems that they have to write an equation for and solve. On the first question, the equation is given in the word problem.

On the practice page, the first 4 questions ask the student to write an exponential equation that matches the given information. In the first two questions the student is given the starting value and the rate of growth or decay. In the second two questions, the student is given an application question.

On questions 5 & 6, the student is given an exponential equation and is asked to identify the initial value, whether the equation represents exponential growth or decay and the rate of growth or decay.

Finally, on questions 7 - 10, the student is given an application question and is asked to write an exponential equation in order to answer the question. On the first question, the equation is given in the word problem. 10 questions total. Key included. Key included.
