In this activity, students are given 10 exponential situations and they have to find the explicit function rule (in y= format) and the now-next rule from their list of answer choices. After they find the two rules, they cut them out and glue them down on their answer sheet. In addition to the 10 word problems, there are 4 more problems in which students are given the function rule (in y= format) and asked to find a possible scenario that would fit that function rule. They find the possible scenario from their answer choices, cut it out and glue it down.
I have used this activity in lots of different classes, however, it aligns perfectly with the Core-plus Math 1 textbook.
Students enjoy doing something different than a normal worksheet and it is more hands-on. There are some “bogus” answer choices that will not be used.
Materials required for each student: glue, scissors, copy of the answer sheet, and copy of the answer choices.
