4 exponential word problem models
Problem 1: Students start with a normally sheet of paper and will fold the paper and half multiple times to fill in the table by recording the number of rectangles after each fold (0 folds -- 1 rectangle, 1 fold -- 2 rectangles, 2 folds -- 4 rectangle, 3 folds -- 8 rectangle, etc.) Students will create a graph, an equation, and answer the questions. This problem also leads to the myth/conversation that you cannot fold a piece of paper in half more than 7 times. Mythbusters did try this out on one of their episodes and debunked the myth.
Problem 2: Exponential Growth model featuring Duck Dynasty
Problem 3: Exponential Decay of Bald Eagle population
Problem 4: Fun problem that talks about asking your parents for an exponential growth in your allowance, great conversation piece and really allows students connect and realize the importance of exponential models.
