Exponential and Log Equations Activity: What's Next? is a 5-10 minute in-class activity that is really helpful for students to practice determining which approach to use without having to complete the entire problem! In fact, they will not be solving any questions at all, but instead, answering multiple-choice questions about processes! It is great for sequential problems, such as solving equations. The best part about it is that it is a quick check-in for understanding and it helps students gain confidence!
Solving exponential and logarithmic equations, including use of the natural log
How this activity can be used in class:
What’s Next? can be used in many ways, and below is a description of how I use it in class! I ask students to complete each question in pairs or in groups. Students will circle the letter of the answer they believe is correct. After students have finished working, I post the answer key on the board and ask them which questions they would like me to go over!
This activity could be used as a warm-up or exit ticket. There could be a prize awarded to students who score the highest! You could ask the students to work together, but only choose one of their papers to be submitted and graded. It could be graded formally or informally.
