Exponents are fully explained with definitions and examples on 28 explanation and example slides. Students can practice exponents during the lesson, in small groups, or independently on the 50 practice problems.

Explanation & Example Slides include:

  • Writing the exponential form as expanded form to increase understanding of exponents
  • Writing the expanded form into exponential form
  • Examples solving exponents on a calculator
  • Examples determining if a number is a perfect square by using mental math basic facts and the square root button on a calculator
  • Special Exponents of 0 and 1
  • Patterns with base number of 10

50 Practice Problems ask students to…

  • identify the base number and exponent
  • given a problem in exponential form, create the expanded form and solve
  • solve given a problem in exponential form
  • given expanded form, create the exponential form and solve
  • determine if a given number is a perfect square
  • using a grid, create a perfect square with a shape and solve

Please note: The Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides have the same explanation & example slides as well as the same practice problems.

Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). For example, use the formulas V = s³ and A = 6 s² to find the volume and surface area of a cube with sides of length s = 1/2.
