Product Description
This Exponents Math Center Game is a great way to get your students a hands-on, engaging critical thinking game! Plus this math center activity is a quick and easy way for teachers to provide meaningful learning that meets the needs of all students!

This exponents puzzle will help your students practice matching exponents to the number they represent. The puzzle contains whole numbers 2 through 12 each to the power of two, numbers 2 through 10 each to the power of three, and numbers 2 through 5 each to the fourth power for a total of 24 exponents being practiced.

You get two puzzles – one has students match the exponential form to standard form. The second puzzle has students match the expanded (factor) form to the standard form.

Then each of these two puzzles has FOUR versions – one with graphics and numbers around the outside, one with graphics and NO numbers around the outside, a third option with no graphics but numbers around the outside, and the final option with graphics but NO numbers around the outside. Choose which make sense for your class, or differentiate to meet individual needs.

Finally, each puzzle comes in a “pre cut”, no prep format! Simply print the page you want your students to complete and then they cut out the puzzle and put it together. Print and go! It doesn’t get much easier!!

This means the entire resource is made up of 16 puzzle options! You’ll have to decide which to print to best meet the needs of your students.

An editable PowerPoint file has been included as a center rubric. A full page option and half page option are both included. Print these out for immediate use, or change the wording and format to fit the needs of YOUR students.

Preparation and Storage: You will need to print off the desired number of copies. These work well for centers, individual practice, or whole group instruction. Cut the magic squares out and put them into plastic baggies for students’ use. I put each set in its own plastic baggie. Then I put all of these baggies and one original sheet in a manila envelope with the name of the activity on the front. This way I have the answer key and all materials readily available.

If you want the students to do the cutting – simply print out the “pre cut” puzzles and hand one sheet to each child. Easy. Done! NO PREP!
Directions to Play: Give students the cut-up magic square sheet. Tell them they need to put the square back together. The first time you have the students complete one of these, I suggest drawing out a 4x4 square on the board so they understand what it should look like. You can also give them the hint (because I have found some do not figure this out!) that the graphics will all be facing the correct direction.
Correcting Student Work: To easily check a student’s completed work, keep an original copy of the magic square sheet they are working on. This way you can immediately check to see if the graphics or numbers are in the correct order or not.

This product can help teach CCSS 6.EE.A.1 and 5.NBT.B.6. While it will not fully address either of these standards, it will help students who need a more basic overview of exponents. This is why it works across grades 3-6.
