This product contains the following PDF files: A 4-page “partner A exponents” activity, a 4-page “partner B exponents” activity, an answer key, and suggested instructions for using this product.

While working on this activity, each partner will cut out and match equivalent expressions as well as have the opportunity to collaborate on a mini-investigation about the multiplication of powers with the same base. Partners will also collaborate on a real- world scenario about doubling money. This activity makes it easy for students to work together, while at the same time allowing each student to work individually as needed.

Suggested instructions for using this activity:

Directions for page 1…Have students partner up. Give one student the 4-page “Partner A” packet. Give the other student the 4-page “Partner B” packet. Notice that page 1 of partner A and B’s packets contain 4 identical “problems”. Partners may collaborate on these problems, but they need to record their answers on their own sheet. Once each partner is done, they will compare answers to make sure they are the same before moving on to the cutout activity.

Directions for page 2…Notice that page 2 of partner A and B’s packets contain different cutouts. First have Partner A cut out from his or her page 2, the eight “answers”. Partner B will then cut out from his or her page 2, the eight “problems”. They will then match-up the expressions and tape or glue the “match ups” on colored paper or card stock. They can hang them on the walls throughout the class.

Directions for page 3 …You will again notice that page 3 of partner A and B’s packets contain 5 identical “problems”. Partners may collaborate on these problems, but they need to record their answers on their own sheet. Once each partner is done, they will compare answers to make sure they are the same.

Directions for page 4…Notice again, that page 4 of partner A and B’s packets contain different cutouts. Have Partner A cut out from his or her page 4, the eight “problems”. Partner B will then cut out from his or her page 4, the eight “answers”. They will then match-up the expressions and tape or glue the “match ups” on colored paper or card stock. They can hang them on the walls throughout the class.
