Exponents introduction (0 and 1 as exponents, evaluating exponential expressions, vocabulary of an exponential expression).
Negative exponents - simplifying negative exponents in the numerator and denominator.
3 days of exponent rules - I DO NOT explicitly state the rules, but rather have all of my students just put the exponential expression into expanded form, simplify bases then back into standard form. This works very well for inclusion/ESL courses
2 days of radicals - vocabulary of radicals, switching between radical and exponential form (new for CCSSM), 1 day of simplifying single radical expressions.
Each section of notes has a warm-up to review prior learning and a section of on your own (exit ticket) for students to complete after notes.
I use these notes in an high school Algebra 1 ESL classroom, where most of my students have never been to any type of school before. Generally, they are quite successful as long as they try.
