The Meticulous English Teacher Presents:
The feedback rubric! Are you tired of spending hours marking student essays? I know I am. Work smarter, not harder with the feedback rubric! Basically, it is a rubric with two columns that allows for positive feedback and constructive feedback all with a few strokes of the highlighter!
This feedback rubric is for use with Texas STAAR expository essays. I developed it with the needs of my junior and senior students who are in my EOC intervention class. I have also used it in regular English III. I've analyzed the basic positive qualities that the STAAR graders are looking for as well as key areas of weakness that I notice in my students' writing to create this rubric. Scoring is at the bottom of the rubric on a 1-4 scale. The rubric also provides a great starting point for quick, student-teacher writing conferences.
With these rubrics I can speed through 1-2 classes of essays in a single conference period. Highlighter in hand, I confidently provide encouragement and feedback to students while saving time on writing the same comments over and over.
Use the feedback rubric and take back your weekend!
