This document includes guidelines for a project, notes to help students complete the project, a rubric to grade the final project, and teacher notes to help inform you regarding the project.
This project is a good way for your students to have an opportunity to utilize visual and kinesthetic learning styles when approaching writing. By allowing your students to create and manipulate an expository essay for themselves, you are giving them an extra means of understanding how the composition of an expository essay works. Likewise, by placing emphasis on the logic of how their model works as a whole, you are helping them to see how the different sentences of an expository essay come together and work together as a whole, as well.
If you teach a method similar to the Schaffer method in your essay writing, then this project lends itself well to that. If you do not teach the Schaffer method, the project can still be adjusted to fit your writing style and structure.
