Are winners better than losers? This expository reading and writing unit examines four different articles and discusses the benefits and drawbacks of winning and losing. It was designed to be used with middle school students in the first part of the school year. Students will also watch a couple of short video clips and analyze the value of failure. The final writing component asks students to demonstrate understanding of an argument, to take a position, and present it in the format of an argumentative essay. It will require two to three weeks of class time to complete.
