In this pack you will receive:
Circle map- This is where you will do your brainstorming. Topic (ex. favorite foods) will go in the middle, all your ideas go around in the bigger circle and finally the frame of reference outside the circle and inside the border (where did we learn about the things we know on our topic, ex. my mom cooks it, I’ve seen it on tv, I had it at a friend’s house.).
Tree map- Pick your favorite brainstorming idea from your circle map and write it on the big line (ex, pizza). Then under each branch of the tree map include a reason why you picked what you picked.
Flow map- Transfer the tree map information onto the flow map. I have a couple of flow maps for you to choose from. I like to call this step “stoplight writing”. I have a black and white version where I just have my learners trace the boxes with a crayon and I have a colored version.
The green box will be your “start, green sentence”. Introduce what you are talking about.
The 3 yellow boxes are your 3 reasons from your tree map.
The red box will be your “stop, end sentence”. Conclude what you are talking about.
There is also a space to include your transition words.
I have included a version without the transition word line if you haven’t taught that yet.
Final copy- I have included blank pages to write your final copy of your expository writing. There is a horizontal version and a vertical version.
This will sometimes take us a week or two to complete. We will do this process twice a month or so.
