This lesson is a part of the “When Music Offends” unit presented in the book we use in the classroom. The idea is to present the students with an article that deals with a different writing style than they would typically see in a classroom setting and ask them to analyze the author’s point of view and tone, among other questions. By breaking up the article into chunks, the students are allowed the opportunity to fully digest what they have just read and then be able to interpret the text.
You can use this is conjunction with the "Expository Writing Prep Lesson" I've uploaded or on its own. Although it is designed for a specific unit, you can adapt this lesson plan to any grade level or genre of text.
