My students love this activity. We start with the PowerPoint presentation. We review the rules for writing an excellent friendly letter. Then I tell them that they are going to become an advice columnist. I have developed twelve letters that are written by teenagers (middle school-high school) about common problems that this age group experiences. Each of my students becomes an advice columnist and chooses a letter and letter writer that they feel they can help by giving advice. My students are very creative, and I love listening to their letters. They present them to the class, and the class always gets into a discussion about other possible solutions for the problem. I know your class will enjoy this activity. It takes about two periods to complete.
