This graphic organizer allows students to create an outline for either a persuasive or expository essay. I call this the "Box Method," so when students go to test or write an essay on their own, they know immediately to draw these simple boxes. It also has a section that helps remind students to "circle back" to the thesis statement.
The "Reason" section is for the second half of their thesis and to remind them of what the true focus of their paper is. For example, if the prompt was "Write an essay explaining your definition of a true friendship" their thesis may be: My definition of a true friendship is two people who can completely trust one another.
Their reason would be "two people who can trust one another"; therefore, their examples have to be of a friendship where two people trust one another using a connection to history, novel, movie, tv show, politics, pop culture, songs, ect.
