"I" Statements Booklet
Goals: expressing emotions, assertive communication, and conflict resolution
Children don’t just wake up one day knowing how to communicate. It’s our jobs as parents/educators to help teach them the appropriate ways to communicate.
“I” statements are an extremely helpful tool when working with children in the classroom, in a group setting, at home, anywhere. “I” statements help express feelings in a more constructive, appropriate way. By using this method, we’re teaching children how to learn assertive communication, how to resolve conflicts, and how to express their emotions.
