Using a deck of cards (numbers 2-10) , or a set of numerical cards have students in pairs take one card each. They write an addition or subtraction sentence with the two cards. They then go find another pair of students whose sum or difference is equal to theirs. They write that number sentence to the right of theirs on the worksheet. Students learn the relationship between addition and subtraction and that there are more than one way to get a number.
Students can also work in small groups or at a center to find and write equal expressions.
