This is a complete unit of study for Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.
Can be used for individual student work, small group or even whole class.
You will need copies of the book and a copy of the movie in addition to this resource.
An extended book study motivates students by providing them with choice in how they demonstrate their learning, as well as giving them the incentive of getting to watch a movie when they finish their book!
The unit contains a Reading Checklist, Dictionary and Questions.
The Reading Checklist helps you keep track of where students are in the unit. Students are expected to read the chapters, answer the questions, and add to their dictionary for each chapter of the book.
The Dictionary helps students develop their vocabulary by identifying unknown words and finding the definitions for them. When students have finished the book, they have a student-made dictionary you can have them type and "publish" for the rest of the class.
The Questions are designed to increase student comprehension and promote group discussion. Questions are tailored to individual chapters. Included are also project prompts for students to display their final learning. The projects increase student engagement through choice and are designed to highlight different learning modalities. There are also projects for after viewing of the movie, which have students focus on comparing and contrasting the book and the movie.
Since each document is made with Word, you can customize instructions easily to fit your classroom!
