This is a compressed folder file that contains a variety of materials to help teach students how to thoroughly answer extended response questions. It addresses the important common core topic of evidence.
There is a PDF (as well as a editable Word File) that contains a lesson plan and all required worksheets. The lesson puts your students in the shoes of a grader for a day. They have a chance to look at work from their peers and figure out exactly how difficult it really is to grade English responses. Then, the lesson introduces students to the IRACE formula for answer questions. In addition, the lesson includes Evidence Based Sentence Starter Bookmarks that you can pass out to all of your students.
There is also a SMART Board file that goes over the IRACE information.
The only thing not included is an article about Coke vs. Pepsi to use in the lesson. Due to copyright issues, I didn't think it was wise to copy an article into my file. However, I have included a link to the article that I use and it is easily accessible online. In addition there are several other articles available online to choose from when discussing Coke Vs. Pepsi.
This lesson plan could easily be adapted for 7th or 9th grade. Teachers would just need to make note of the standards and perhaps find a grade appropriate text to use with the lesson.
