This handout asks students to write 50 sentences in the imperfect tense. Over 20 model sentences are provided and broken into 5 categories:
Age and appearance
Physical and emotional state
Desires and preferences
Date, time and weather
This handout is appropriate for students who have already been introduced to the imperfect tense and are just starting to wonder how this tense is different from the preterite. It should take about ~30 minutes for students to write quality sentences. Once they have had a chance to complete the work, I ask them to peer edit and then share sentences with the class. Depending on how much time is available I will ask students questions about their statements to get them talking in Spanish and thinking in the imperfect.
To set the stage for this activity consider giving your students Extra Practice: Imperfect Tense #1 (Basic). A preview is available.
